Web search basics

search engine optimisation, web marketing No Comments »

Web marketing is not exactly an exact science. There are many ways of achieving consistent results in this area. However there is never a guarantee on the results. Stay away from the individuals or companies that promise great results in a short amount of time. Consistent results can only be achieved over time and not by the aid of black hat seo.

I think the base of effective web marketing campaigns is understanding of web searches. this is the ultimate goal of a web marketing campaign: to increase awareness of the organization and to rank higher in search engines.

When it comes to web searches, there are actually two ways the search engines display the results:

  • Organic results. These are also known as natural results. These type of results are what made google famous.Organic results are the best pages found by the search engine for a specific query. Search engine optimization  refers to ranking higher among these organic results.  These results are most trusted by searchers and they should be given the most importance in a web marketing campaign. Searchers click on organic results 60% of the time so it is very important for a website to have good performances in organic search engine results. Good performances in organic results don’t happen overnight and depend on a lot of variables. Though it takes some effort to achieve good results, these pay off in the long run.
  • Paid results. There are two types of paid results: paid placement and paid inclusion. Paid inclusion guarantees that site’s pages have been indexed by the search engine. This is specific to Yahoo.  Paid placement refers to the possibility of paying to have your ad shown when a searcher enters a specific query.

Web marketing and design because these are two things that I know about. I know they are not necessarily related but since I’m going to write on both of these topics i considered it to be a good title for my blog.

The purpose of this blog is to educate on these two topics. It’s not intended to be exhaustive or 100% accurate.
